Rio Marina
The Council area of Rio Marina came into existence in 1882 and is the centre of the Island of Elba’s mining area. Many of the houses were specially built for the miners.
The town of Rio Marina, known in all the world for its iron ore and mining activities up until the end of 1981, is home to a large museum housing minerals of Elba and mineral arts that is well worth visiting. It is also possible, with the help of guides from the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, to go on excursions into the mines and even collect mineral samples.

Excursions
It is possible to go on excursions and walks along footpaths which climb through the surrounding hills where you will find ruins and castles and can enjoy breath taking views.
