Rio Marina Mining Park

Mineral Museum

Mineral Museum

The Island of Elba’s Mining Park is a project aimed at the environmental upgrading and reclamation of areas damaged by iron mining.
At Rio Marina visitors are offered educational activities such as research and the study of minerals in the brand new Environmental Education workshop.
Hikes with environmental guides to search for minerals at the Bacino site. Tours by wheeled train to explore the main mining sites in Rio Marina. Palazzo del Burò in the centre of Rio Marina, just a few metres from our shop, houses the Museum of the Art of Mining and Minerals.
Here you will find one of the most important collections of minerals of the Island of Elba, with several specimens of exceptional beauty. In addition to the minerals, inside the museum you can explore different mine settings which have been faithfully reproduced by experts in industrial archaeology using original materials found on the old sites (the smith’s workshop, the miner’s shelter and a small part of a tunnel built to scale). Lastly the old machinery and historical photos are an interesting addition to a unique and fascinating environment. The Park’s structures are open from April to October, whilst during the winter months visits are available for organized groups.
